Photo to lithophane

Add a still photo using Android Files. Inspect the private staged copy and choose Add or Cancel. The production library starts empty; the original generated Alpine example is optional. Each of 12 projects stores one normalized working photo, parameters and notes. Keep originals outside the app.

Supported images

JPEG, PNG and still WebP are supported; HEIF/AVIF depend on device codecs. Animation and RAW are not supported. Input limits: 40 MiB and 40 megapixels. Orientation is applied, transparency is flattened onto white and the working copy is 8-bit sRGB with a maximum 2048 px long edge. Original image metadata is removed.

Shape and inspection

Developed width 50–180 mm, aspect-derived height 20–240 mm, flat or 30°/60°/90° arc. Minimum thickness 0.6–1.6 mm, maximum 2–5 mm, optional sampled 2 mm border. Dark adjusted tones produce thicker material. Tone, Solid and mid-height Section use the generated geometry. Drag to orbit, pinch to zoom or use Front/Oblique/Edge. Interactive preview is capped at 72 long-edge samples; export uses 128/256/512, at least 16 per axis. Tone view does not predict physical optical transmission.

Print files

Build creates Lithophane.stl, Thickness-coupon.stl, Setup-sheet.pdf, Adjusted-photo.png, Settings.json and Readme.txt. Manifest.json records SHA-256 and byte size for those six payloads; the ZIP contains the payloads and manifest. Tap the PDF row or Preview setup PDF to view pages rendered from the actual generated PDF. Save files with Android Files or share the complete ZIP. Other apps must support the selected format.

STL has no unit tag. Coordinates are millimetres: import at 100% scale and select orientation in your slicer. The coupon is one connected 105 × 20 mm solid with 21 adjacent 5 mm steps. Test material, slicing and lighting. No physical print, material calibration, G-code, slicing or printer connection is provided.

Saved projects and recovery

Changes invalidate old generated files. Duplicate copies the working photo and settings without reusing output. Replace photo retains project settings and notes. Delete confirmation removes the project's private photo and files. Settings JSON is a record only, not an importable backup. Save important photos and exports elsewhere; uninstalling removes private projects and Android automatic backup is disabled.

An unreadable library is protected from new writes. Try again after restoring its original index; Save original index exports the unreadable file for recovery. Missing or damaged photos can be replaced without silently resetting the library. Contact support before modifying private data.
