Choose a PDF
Choose PDF opens Android’s document picker. The app makes a private copy and reads the real page count. Cancelled or failed replacements preserve the current imported file. A successful import resets numbering to every page starting at 1. Saved output runs and named presets remain. Try fictional example loads a six-page report only when requested.
Define sections
Sections → Presets offers Number every page and Report with front matter. For documents of at least four pages, the report preset leaves page 1 blank, numbers PDF pages 2–3 in lower Roman, then starts PDF page 4 at decimal 1. For shorter documents it leaves only the cover blank, except a one-page document.
Tap a section to edit its name, first and last physical PDF page, starting number and decimal/lower Roman/upper Roman format. Add section creates another range; ranges cannot overlap or extend beyond the document. Up to eight sections are supported. Pages outside ranges stay unnumbered. Skip page removes its number and does not consume a number; Include page reverses this. Every section must retain at least one numbered page. Decimal final values may not exceed 9,999,999 and Roman values must remain within 1–3999.
Placement and preview
Tap the placement row to choose one of six header/footer positions, 18–72 pt margin and 8–18 pt text. Prefix accepts up to 24 printable English characters. Page style adds Page before the value. The number/final-value style uses the last value of that section, including its start and skipped pages; it is not the total PDF page count. Presets keep exact ranges; applying one validates that it fits the current PDF.
Pages shows the physical-to-printed map and actual PDF preview. Select a page, move with Previous page / Next page, and toggle Original / Numbered. Pinch the PDF to zoom. Placement follows the visible rotated crop box. A white backing covers a small label rectangle. Existing page numbers are not detected or removed. Printed numbers do not change logical page labels used by a PDF reader. This is not redaction.
Save and share
Create numbered PDF confirms the backing/printed-number behavior and saves an independent run. Saved → a run contains Original.pdf, Numbered.pdf, Page-map.csv, Numbering-run.json and Numbering-files.zip. The ZIP contains the four other files. The original bytes and SHA256 remain, while JSON binds the source, numbered PDF and CSV hashes to the section rules. Page-map.csv includes every physical page, including unnumbered pages. Preview displays the actual saved PDF with page navigation or text records. Save completes Android’s destination picker; success is reported after the output stream closes. Share opens a chooser and does not establish delivery.
Limits, deletion and recovery
Use standard unsigned, unencrypted PDFs up to 64 MB and 500 pages. Interactive forms, scripts, attachments, active document actions, embedded media, JPEG2000 images and nonstandard page units are unsupported. Very large or complex documents may exceed device memory; try a smaller standard PDF. Saved runs are limited to 20 and 256 MB total; presets to 12. Remove imported copy keeps saved outputs and external originals. Delete a saved run or Remove all saved outputs affects only app-private generated copies. Uninstalling or clearing app data removes private work; device backup is disabled. Save important files externally.
If local state cannot be read, the app protects it. Save recovery ZIP contains raw private state and local source/output files for inspection. It is not automatic restore. After saving externally, Reset library explicitly deletes private data and creates an empty library. External copies remain under your control.
